School Motto

School Badge

The design of the school badge dates back to 1911. The design includes the motto in Chinese and English. The colours – red, yellow, blue, white and black were taken from the five-barred flag used in Republican China from 1911 to 1928. According to tradition, each colour represented one of China"s five racial groups, the red bar at the top standing for the Han people. The design itself is full of symbolism, with the circle representing both the world and the perfection of God, the Creator. The pentalpha or five-pointed star is known as the Star of Bethlehem, and represents Jesus Christ, the hope of the world. The pentalpha can also be viewed as a person standing in the Eastern attitude of prayer, with arms outstretched. At the heart of the badge is the Cross.
School Hymn
Listen to: MIDI version | MP3 version
We build our school on Thee, O Lord,
To Thee we bring our common need
The loving heart, the helpful word,
The tender thought, the kindly deed.
We work together in Thy sight,
We live together in Thy love:
Guide Thou our faltering steps aright,
And lift our thoughts to heaven above.
Hold Thou each hand to keep it just,
Touch Thou our lips to make them pure;
If Thou art with us, Lord, we must
Be faithful friends and comrades sure.
We change but Thou art still the same,
The same good Master, Teacher, Friend;
We change, but, Lord, we bear Thy Name,
To journey with it to the end.
Dear Lord we pray, Thy Spirit may
Be present in our school alway.

Staff Appraisal
A staff appraisal system was set up in St. Stephen"s Girls" College in 1998. The aim of the system is to improve and develop quality education in the school. A working group was formed in June 1998 to work out a schedule for the appraisal system. Stage One of the system was tried out in the 1999-2000 academic year. Lesson observations and discussions were carried out throughout the whole year. Stage Two of the system which involves appraisal on policy-making and functional committees and teams, is to be tried out throughout the year 2000-2001.
Induction Programme and Mentor System for New Teachers
An Induction Programme and a Mentor System are tailored for new teachers every year. New teachers to the school are helped by experienced teachers in teaching and other related activities through the mentor system. Experience-sharing sessions and teaching references are also organised and planned for new teachers through the Induction Programme.
Extra-curricular Activities
St. Stephen"s Girls" College emphasizes extra-curricular activities as an important part of an all-round education. With the advice of the extra-curricular activities coordinator, the Students" Association runs a number of clubs and interest groups, divided into 4 categories: publication, academic, cultural and service. In addition, there are school teams for sports, dance, debates and athletics.
The school also lays strong emphasis on music and has several choirs and orchestras. Every year, they represent the school in competitions and performances, and have regularly won prizes. Frequent concerts are held to promote the musical life of the school.
Students are encouraged to take an active part in at least one extra-curricular activity to enrich their school life.

| Campus Broadcasting Studio St. Stephen"s was among the first batch of schools receiving a grant from the Quality Education Fund in establishing a Campus TV station. The Campus Broadcasting Studio, completed in the Summer 2001, was equipped with a video mixing suite, three sets of professional non-linear editing suite and other audio-visual equipment. It was officially opened on 20th April 2002 by Mr. Michael Choy, Chairman of the School Council on the school"s 95th Anniversary Open Day. Ever since its opening, the studio has been used for recording teaching and training materials, student programmes and other media initiatives.
|
| IT Facilities As one of the pilot schools under the IT Pilot Scheme in 1998, St. Stephen’s Girls’ College has been a pioneer in providing ample IT facilities to teachers and students in teaching and learning, as well as for their daily activities in this information era. The core of the infrastructure is a gigabit Ethernet, with a 100 Mbps broadband Internet access, linking over 300 workstations around the three buildings through an optical fibre backbone. There are 4 Windows 2003 servers for file sharing, plus a few servers for other applications. Wireless connection is available in most parts of the school premises. All servers and workstations are well protected by NetProtect firewall and anti-virus software against security threads. Students are free to use facilities in their classrooms, the two Computer Rooms and the library after lesson time. In addition, there is a Multimedia Room for use by students and teachers for language learning and activities requiring more interaction. Teachers can use notebook computers at their own desks, and IT facilities in Resource Rooms for lesson preparation and carrying out administrative duties. A school intranet eClass has been set up to enhance teaching and learning by providing virtual classes, discussion forums, online assessment and exercises via the Internet outside school hours. A VOD server is set up to facilitate media production and broadcasting video clips. In addition to the WebSAMS provided by the EMB, a web-based extranet system has been developed to provide various customized applications for administrative functions to enhance efficiency and bring about greater convenience for teachers and students.

| 年份 2006-07 2004-06 2003-04 2002-03 歷屆會長名錄 Message from the Chairman 2006-07
as a member of the St. Stephen"s Girls" family, will continue to support the school in providing quality education to our students not only encouraging self actualization but also enabling them to act as the light and salt of the society (Gospel according to St. Matthew 5:13-17). The vision of SSGC is to be excellent in scholarship, leadership and service and our predecessors have already laid a firm foundation for us. With the help of God and our collaborative effort, I am sure we can face all challenges in the future. Let us join our hands with other family members and march joyfully into the new centenary and write another fruitful chapter for SSGC. Tai Tak Ching |
